25 years of quilting.png

Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 14 2025 where Janice Maginess will show quilts, tips and tricks for quilting.   While Janice sewed as a child,  she didn't discover quilting until she moved to Erin in the fall of 1974, as a young wife and mother. When she stayed home to raise her son, David, she took some classes at Erin High School taught by Gail Spence of the Hobby Horse.  Then she took a day class in quilting at Mimosa Church and never looked back.  Her quilting journey had begun.    Janice met Cheryl Westlake when she opened her first shop (Alice's Quilt Shoppe) in Erin later relocating to the other end of Erin. Cheryl inspired and challenged Janice to be brave, have faith in her abilities and try new projects as she learned new skills.  She spent many happy afternoons at Cheryl's shop sitting and learning hand applique all the time soaking up any quilting advice that she was given.  Over the years Janice has also taken classes at Undercover Quilts in Fergus owned by Virginia Ingleby, The Hobby Horse in Georgetown,  as well as going to quilt retreats, and on quilt bus tours.  When the Erin Village Quilters were formed and began meeting at the 109 Club in Erin, Janice was there with bells on!  She has been involved in different elements of the Erin Quilters Executive over the years.   Janice has been in the Wee Group first meeting at Myrtle Reid's home and now meeting at Lilli Lockhart's home.   Some of Janice's favourite blocks are Dresden Plate, Log Cabin and Disappearing Nine-Patch.  She loves bright colours, fusible applique, hand big stitch quilting, as well as machine quilting.  Her two tips for quilting would be square up your blocks as you go and as quilter have fun doing what you love!!  During her husbands' ongoing health issues quilting has been a blessing and the people such an encouragement!

Welcome back to our first in-person meeting for the 2025/2026 year! Join us on Monday, September 8, 2025, at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 83 Trafalgar Rd, Hillsburgh, starting at 6:30 PM. Doors will open for registration, membership renewal ($40 if not yet registered), shopping at the fabric tables donated by Myrtle (thank you, Myrtle!), and socializing. Don't forget to grab your 50/50 tickets and special fabric and prize raffle tickets—$2.00 each or 3 for $5! At 6:50 PM, we will have a skills exchange with Sharon and Anne, perfect for new quilters or anyone with questions. The meeting will kick off at 7:00 PM with updates on this year's programs and projects, along with some fun games. Since no one volunteered for the Social Committee, it will be a BYOBBring Your Own Beverage) night with no treats. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

In Person Guest Speakers – Mary Dodd and Linda Ward

A teacher by heart, working in the education system for 35 years she thoroughly enjoys all aspects of the quilting world.

Her quilting career started with a Grandmother’s Flower garden design in a McCall’s magazine she found when in Australia in 1974, and has not stopped since. She has taught, worked with and supported many students, sewers and others. She has exhausted at least 10 sewing machines, in her endeavor to follow her mantras “Better Finished than Perfect”, “Wack-it together” and “Get-Er-Done” which has served her well over the years.

We will also offer a member’s table sale. Members can purchase a table to sell their own items. Cost is $10 per table to EVQ (people can share cost between them) and

Sandy’s trunk show called “Confessions of a Scrapaholic” will take you through a light hearted journey of quilting with friends and features approximately 45 quilts. She is  currently working on a series of quilts and workshops attempting to modernize old  stash. This is a very popular concept with guilds and quilters alike, as we all have too  much old stash. Sandy loves to encourage quilters to use up and think about it in a  whole new way.

Sandy, a former pattern maker/stylist and clothing manufacturer, found her passion  when she discovered quilting. She soon developed her skills into a thriving long-arm  quilting business. During covid she collaborated with Valerie Prideaux in organizing  ‘Quilt Talk’, together they delivered a diverse selection of leaders and innovators in the  quilting community via Zoom. They covered every topic imaginable as long as it was  quilting related.

Sandy is about to launch her second Scrap Sewciety BOM all in an effort to help you  win the stash battle.

January Meeting Zoom

Monday Jan 13, 2025 at 7 pm

Zoom meeting:

Patti Carey will be the speaker.

I have been a creative person my entire life.  I dabbled in many crafts in my younger years.  My mom taught me to sew when I was 7 and I sewed my wardrobe throughout high school and beyond.  I started working with Northcott in 1986 and was there for 38 years.  I began quilting in 1987 when Northcott made the transition from fashion to quilting fabric and I quickly became hooked.  I have been designing quilts for Northcott and for numerous quilting magazines since 1995.  I was a regular contributor to The Quilter magazine, Love of Quilting and Easy Quilts and continue to contribute to the Golden Peak Media group of publications including McCall’s Quilting and Quiltmaker.  Several of these projects have been cover quilts and best-sellers. In 2008 I started publishing my comprehensive line of quilt patterns that utilize efficient and time-saving techniques.  I specialize in designing quilts using panels and border stripes.

I design fabric as well.  My first collection, Vino, designed for Northcott’s Banyan Batiks division, shipped to quilt shops in November 2019 and my second collection, Canoe Lake, arrived September 2021.  I also designed the Color Play collection for Northcott in the Fall of 2022.

Teresa Mackie
May 13, 2024 at 7 pm

Teresa has been quilting for over twenty years. Working with many different styles and techniques, enjoying each one of them. To her it is all about the journey, the enjoyment, and each moment spent creating. Finishing is just a byproduct of her quilting experience and very often a happy accident.

Teresa has entered her quilts into several local shows, and has won an award here and there. She is very proud and happy that her quilts are admired by quilters and artists alike.
